Lake Powell

I have heard of people going to Lake Powell all of my life and now that we have gone, it really lives up to the hype. We were lucky enough to be invited by a great family, the Hammonds.  They used to own a houseboat business and he even designed the boat we stayed on called the Escalante Escape.  Four bedrooms with 2 bathrooms and plenty of common areas to sit and relax.  I wish I had more pictures to show how huge it is but I was too busy playing.  There is a lot of planning and preparation before going to Lake Powell as we had to pack in all food, snacks and drinks for the week but they are professionals at that and helped us know what to bring and do.

The kids spent hours everyday jumping or sliding off the back of the boat.

 They took us to some neat Indian ruins called Defiance house by boat and then we hiked up. 

There are still burn marks from their fires inside.  This is the view down from the ruins.

The kids loved tubing and got crazy with it.

The scenery does not disappoint.  I didn't know that Lake Powell has over 2000 miles of shoreline.  That is more than the entire west coast of the United States!

We explored fun little coves and areas to swim in.

 When the water was higher a couple years back, the Hammonds got out of the boat near this arch to jump in the water on the other side. 

Rainbow Bridge.  We parked the boat and then hiked up to it.  Beautiful.  Years ago, Lake Powell was even under Rainbow Bridge.  I think there is a picture of that on the opening of Music and the Spoken Word on Sunday mornings if you are interested in seeing an aerial view.

 

This is Hole in the Rock where the Mormon pioneers came down on their way to Arizona.  This end is only accessible by boat.



Love how this picture captures hours of kid time in the front of the boat.  Thank goodness we had the shade on the boat as it was hot!!

 

Lily and the other kids lived in their life jackets.  The week at Lake Powell made time slow and almost stop.  We didn't capture hours of games, laughter, relaxing, and eating but we loved every minute and had a blast and would do it again in a heartbeat.
